Leica EM FC6 Cryochamber

Setting New Standards in Cryosectioning

15 June 2006: With the Leica EM FC6, Leica Microsystems has introduced an innovative cryochamber for the Leica Ultracut UC6 ultramicrotome. It sets new standards in cryosectioning for Tokuyasu technique, Frozen Hydrated Specimens (FHS) and sectioning of polymers, rubbers and other soft material samples not only for TEM but also for LM, SEM and AFM.

The Leica EM FC6 has been specifically designed in accordance with customer requests for a more ergonomic, easy-to-use instrument with a wider temperature range and increased
sectioning stability. Everything from installation to section retrieval has been reviewed and simplified
• Ergonomic hand rests ensure fatigue free cryosectioning.
• The integrated Control Unit to the Ultracut UC6 saves space on the table.
• All controls including the Antistatic Device are manageable via the TouchScreen of the
UC6 Control Unit.
• A LED chamber illumination ensures perfect visibility of sections.
• The instrument is quickly cooled down with LN2 via a pump with a threaded hose
connection.
• The wide temperature range from –185 to –15°C allows cryosectioning techniques from
frozen hydrated work and Tokuyasu specimens to polymer sectioning.
• A rotating knife holder and eucentric knife stage rotation with centre click stop make
trimming and sectioning easy and precise.
As additional accessories, a newly designed set of cryotools for Frozen Hydrated Specimens
and a quick refilling system for the Dewar are available. An additional cryo AFM specimen
holder is also available for the FC6.
