Leica EM UC6

New Ultramicrotome for Ultrathin Sectioning and Facing of Specimens

15 June 2006: Leica Microsystems has released the brand new Ultramicrotome Leica Ultracut
EM UC6. As ergonomics for fatigue-free operation is an integral part of the Leica product
design, an optimized operating concept has been developed allowing the Leica EM UC6 to be
used easily and fatigue-free by left-handed and right-handed operators alike. Armrests attached
to the table, adjustable in latitude and height, offer a comfortable posture during operation.

The eucentric movement of the viewing system and brightness controlled LED illumination
allows excellent examination of sections, even with lowered water level. The innovative touchsensitive
control unit of the Leica EM UC6 enables fast and safe alignment of knife and
specimen with help files and prompts to hand for beginners. Built-in antistatic devices as well as
the possibility of storing up to seven different user-settings define the outstanding performance
parameters of the new Leica TouchScreen.

While the motorized N-S movement of the knife stage is a unique feature of all Leica
ultramicrotomes, the new Leica EM UC6 is additionally equipped with a motorized E-W
movement. Furthermore, a new autotrim function reduces the time-consuming part of sampletrimming
using the programmable knife and specimen-arm movements.
